Living in the area - Hinckley

Hinckley is a market town in Southwest Leicestershire on the border with Warwickshire.


Shopping

Hinckley's biggest shopping centre, Britannia Centre on Castle Street, has more than 12 stores and stalls. Hansom Court on Stockwell Head also has several stores. The Edwards Centre located on Regent Street is a small row of six stores.


Recreation

Hinckley has a non-league football team, Hinckley United, who compete in the Calor Southern League.
Hinckley Rugby Club is based at the Leicester Road Sports Ground and play in the National 3 Midlands division.
The Hinckley 69ers basketball team plays in division 2 of the Leicestershire men's amateur league and is based at John Cleveland College.
Hinckley Park, in the centre of the town, contains tennis courts, golf pitch and putt and lawn bowls.
Hinckley Ladies Netball Club is based at Redmoor High School and has four senior teams in the Coventry and Warwickshire Netball League.
Greentowers, at youth club at Richmond Park, has a climbing wall, skate park, astro turf and a BMX track.


Transport

Hinckley is served by the A5 and the M69. The M69 links the town to the nearest cities, Coventry and Leicester, and the M1 and M6 motorways.
Hinckley railway station is on the Nuneaton-Leicester section of the Birmingham to Peterborough line and has regular services between Birmingham and Leicester via Narborough and Nuneaton. Journeys to London can be made via the West Coast Main Line through Nuneaton or Midland Main Line via Leicester. The terminus of the Midland route is London St Pancras which is the home to Eurostar international services.
The nearest international airports are East Midlands and Birmingham International.

 

Schools and colleges

The main primary schools in the area are Battling Brook, Holliers Walk, St. Peters Catholic, St. Mary's Church of England, Westfield and Sketchley Hill. High schools include Mount Grace, Redmoor, St. Martin's and Hastings. Colleges include John Cleveland College, Midland Studio College, North Warwickshire and Hinckley College and William Bradford College. Dorothy Goodman Special School caters for both juniors and seniors with disabilities.
