Here at the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust we make it a priority to support our staff in a number of ways, both out in the community and on site at the Hospital. Here are: just a few of the ways we invest in supporting our staff
The 'Workforce Wellbeing Group' aims to improve the health and wellbeing of all the staff that work at the hospital and out in the community. The Group is committed to making continual improvements to the health and wellbeing of the hospital's workforce and approves and actions many staff wellbeing initiatives. Wellbeing activities are funded by the Healthier Work Place Trust Fund. This fund is borne from the proceeds of the hospital's staff lottery fund which pays out prize money each month to three lucky winners, with the remainder of the accumulated funds used to support workplace wellbeing initiatives (e.g. water coolers, picnic benches, wellbeing days, wellbeing walkabouts).
A Wellbeing Strategy, developed by the Wellbeing Group, was launched in 2013 which champions a holistic approach to the wellbeing of our staff, focussing on their physical, social, financial, career, community and spiritual wellbeing. These include:
The Walkabout is carried out by members of the Workforce Wellbeing Group who aim to improve the health and wellbeing of all the staff that work at the hospital and out in the community by providing free bottles of water and pieces of fruit for staff, plus new and relevant information on staff matters.
This corridor runs along the back of the GETEC building and links GETEC to the main part of the hospital. Information leaflets can be found here which sign post staff to services to support and promote the day-to-day health and wellbeing of our workforce.
Just off the Wellbeing Walkway there is a Tranquillity Garden for use by staff in their break times.
Over 300 books, fiction and non-fiction, romance, crime, mystery, autobiographies, etc are available for staff. Use a Warwickshire library card (or join at www.warwickshire.gov.uk) to take out or return library books – a great time saver for visitors, a great past time for patients and staff.
A Staff lottery is available where staff can be in with a chance of winning a cash prize every month. Funds help to improve the health and wellbeing of our staff.
The group support the promotion of Public Health Campaigns including flu, Stoptober, healthy eating etc.
A fruit and veg stall, initiated by the Wellbeing Group, can be found by the main entrance to the Hospital. Staff, patients and visitors can use the stall to enable their recommended '5 a day'.
You can find out about your current health performance. The check covers blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, weight, diet, physical activity and other lifestyle factors. It only takes 20 minutes during work time to have a few simple tests which are all confidential. To book contact Camp Hill GP Led Health Centre on 02476 390 008.
The on-site 'Tikkers Gym' is a subsidised facility for staff wishing to use the gym equipment and changing facilities. Membership is available for a nominal joining fee and a small monthly charge.
Alternatively, staff can enjoy discounts at the Hinckley Leisure Centre – see the staff intranet for more details.
Staff can enjoy a walk around the hospital's 'Smile Mile', which is a walk around the inner pavement of the hospital site and which takes about 20 minutes. It's a great way to exercise during a lunch break or before or after work.
The Workforce Wellbeing group has funded picnic benches and water coolers for staff working at the George Eliot Hospital.
The Chaplaincy Team is available for everyone - staff, patients, visitors and relatives. They are a multi faith team and always available. For staff – if you need somewhere to let off steam, or you just want to talk something through – they are there to listen. The chapel is on the ground floor near the X-ray department; and the All-Faiths Prayer Room is upstairs next to Elizabeth Ward. Both spaces are available at any time, day or night. There is also a book in the chapel where anyone can write prayer requests; and a place to light candles as a sign of your prayers as well.
A number of local shops, restaurants, hotels and garages provide staff discounts. Details can be found on the intranet.
